Hall appointed Director of O.H. Public Library
By C. Dials
Lina Hall, was appointed the Oak Harbor Public Library Director, on December 1, 2009.
Hall began her library career at the Oak Harbor Public Library in 1999 as a part time clerk.
After 3 months of service she decided to go to Kent State University and get her (MLS) Master in Library Science.
She graduated the University in 2002 and then advanced to a Reference Librarian at OH Public Library. Her job duties included helping patrons with information and computer technology.
She worked closely with Pam Hoesman who was the Director at the time and learned about the operations. Hall said, "Pam was a great influence and teacher,"
Hoseman had decided to leave her position in the spring and that is when Lina became Interim Director in May 2009.
"I wanted to take my time before I officially accepted," Hall said.
The Board Members unanimously voted Hall as the new Director. President of the Board, Kathy Steinmiller, said "Lina is the perfect person for this position. Her vast knowledge and experience is an asset to the library."
As Director Hall is responsible for the balance of the library budget, staff, operations and overall library services.
This past year the state cut up to 30% of the state funding to public libraries. Due to this, the library had to cut hours, and is no longer open on Sunday. They also had to pull back on library materials and were unable to update the computers available to the public.
Since taking the position Hall has been working hard maintaining the library services within such a strict budget.
Lina would like to see the budget put back into place where the library would be able to provide better services such as more books, new computers and additional staff.
In 2010 she hopes the budget improves and by next year the cut should decline. However Hall plans to continue the wonderful programs the library offers such as the Summer Reading Program and Library Storytimes.
Hall said, "The Board and library staff have been very supportive of me taking this position.
I am proud we have such a remarkable staff at the library."
