Margretta Polar Bears ice Oak Harbor Rockets Saturday afternoon

By Lenny Appelhans

Sports Writer

A snowy Friday storm put things on hold for the evening and the Margaretta Polar Bears and the Oak Harbor Rockets tangled on a rare Saturday afternoon tilt in Castalia.

The Polar Bears would prevail, 55-50 in the regular season finale for both teams played on Saturday February 27th.

The Polar Bears would make their 3-point lead after one-quarter stand throughout the contest. One advantage the Polar Bears way was 20 trips to the free throw line compared to only 12 for the Rockets. Both teams would turn the ball over 16 times each.

Kevin Young would lead the Rockets with 14 points with Steve Young and Brandon Wasserman each adding eight points apiece. Craig Galindo of Margaretta would lead all scorers with 19 points.

The Rockets finished SBC play with a 4-10 record and 5-15 overall. They start tournament play Tuesday against the Scott Bulldogs at Oregon Clay.

The Rocket JV team continued their winning ways with a 42-28 triumph over their counterparts from Margaretta.

No young Rocket reached double figures, but Mark Edwards would lead the way with 9 points. Philip Bryant would add 8 points and Austin Wiegand 7 points.

The Rocket JV team finished even at 7-7 in SBC play and 11 wins in 20 games overall.
