Cheerleaders and fans raise funds for cancer awareness
The Stella Bertz Memorial Cheer Committee announced the Sixth Annual Cheer.for.a.Cure Championship, held on Saturday, February 20, 2010, was another huge success.
This year's event was held on Saturday, February 20th at the Genoa Area High School. The annual cheerleading competition raises money for three noteworthy causes. The one day event raised a record best of $31,000 for the fight against cancer.
The donations made by cheerleaders and fans, along with other organizations and individuals, are earmarked to support ongoing research by the American Cancer Society for the treatment and prevention of cancer.
An additional $3,000 will be donated to the Stella Bertz Memorial Scholarship Fund and $3,000 will be given to the Genoa Comets Cheerleading Program.
This event is designed to both support all who have been touched by cancer and to also raise money for the American Cancer Society. "The spirit and commitment of this event grows stronger each year!" quoted Jennifer Bullock, VP of the Cheer.for.a.Cure Association.
The Cheer.for.a.Cure President, Maria Maluchnik is quoted, "A big 'thank you' to the sponsors, donors, and fans that support our annual competition. Their efforts allow us to be a positive part of the youth in our communities. It is a very rewarding event."
In the past six years, the Cheer.for.a.Cure Association has donated over $58,000 to the American Cancer Society. For more information about this organization, log-on to www.cheerforacure.com.
