James I. Marik
James I. Marik, 60, of Rochester Hills, Michigan passed away Tuesday, February 16 at home following his battle with cancer. He was the son of Robert and Harriet (Mills) Marik, Oak Harbor, Ohio. His father preceeded him in death.
From an early age, Jim was a talented musician. Upon graduation from Salem-Oak Harbor High School in 1967, he pursued his career in music and radio broadcasting. Also known as "J. R. Nelson", his voice was heard around the world. He was one of the founding members of the original Z-100 Morning Zoo in New York City. His work also included voice promotions for MTV, NFL Network, Busch Gardens and many others. He spent many years on air in the Cleveland and Columbus markets. He most recently worked for CBS Radio in Detroit.
Even through his illness, he found great enjoyment playing keyboards in a country band with his brother-in-law, Mike McGrath. His love of music never ceased.
He is survived by his mother, Harriet Marik-Sandusky Ohio; life partner, Suzanne Peters-Rochester Hills Michigan and their dog Rocket; sisters, Pam Marik-Sandusky Ohio, Irene (John) Rodden-Shepherd Michigan, Lila McKay-Mt.Pleasant Michigan, Debbie (Mike) McGrath-Remus Michigan, April (John) Jacobs-Burton Michigan; nieces and nephews.
Cremation was handled by Pixley Funeral Home, Rochester Michigan. A memorial service took place at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, Ohio, on Saturday, February 20.
